It’s Not Business as Usual!
Lincoln Electric Introduces 108 New Products in 9 Months

Welding application image It’s not business as usual at Lincoln Electric this year, especially in Product Development and Manufacturing. We shuffled our teams and put in the extra hours necessary to speed key products to market without taking any shortcuts. Every product still goes through our reliability torture chambers, complies with agency requirements and gets tested by real welders.

So what’s the benefit? You get access to products that help reduce costs, increase quality and improve productivity. And together, we all remain competitive and start down the road to recovery.

We’re in this together. Choose Lincoln Electric.

Lincoln Electric Hosts Two Successful Wind Tower Welding Seminars
Seminars Provided Insight into Trends and Technologies

Wind Tower Seminar image The alternative energy industry continues to focus on wind power as a viable addition to address expanding global energy demand. With this in mind, Lincoln Electric has recently hosted more than 120 industry professionals interested in learning more about wind tower fabrication.

Seminar attendees traveled from across the United States and as far away as Brazil and Portugal to Lincoln’s Cleveland, Ohio, headquarters to learn more about wind tower fabrication. Each seminar featured an industry overview, technology sessions and live welding demonstrations.

Lincoln Electric’s Power Wave® AC/DC 1000® SD is the leading submerged arc power source for wind tower fabrication. When combined with Lincoln’s process knowledge, it can increase productivity by 30 percent or more over conventional equipment.

Lincoln also has a complete offering of welding consumables designed specifically for wind tower welding applications, including tacking, longitudinal can seam, circumferential can seam, circumferential ring and flange, base flange, entry hatch and rotor shaft.

How I Did It: Stainless Steel Sculpture
From: Rob Lorenson of Middleboro, Massachusetts

This sculpture was commissioned by Five Points Development as well as the City of Sarasota, Florida. Situated in the heart of the city, the piece is integrated into a fountain. Water running down the channel on the circumference is held by capillary action until it flows into the basin.

The 16 ft. x 16 ft. x 5 ft. stainless steel sculpture was designed in CAD and then laser cut from 10 gauge sheet. Each element of detail is hand fabricated by welding, grinding and sanding. The lightning bolts consist of seven individual parts each and there are a total of 32 lightning bolts!

The project's 5,000 lbs. of 304L stainless steel was assembled by pulsed MIG welding with a pair of Lincoln Power MIG® 350MP multi-process wire feeder welders. These machines were also used to TIG weld small sections where appropriate. Lincoln Mobiflex® low vacuum/high volume systems were used for fume extraction and filtration.

Pulsed MIG welding provided the speed needed over TIG welding while greatly reducing the amount of finish work required with traditional MIG. Overall the project took less than 800 man-hours to complete while using over 250 lbs. of welding wire. The labor savings of pulsed MIG welding on this project paid for one of the machines!

What is pulsed MIG welding?

Note: The operation of welding fume control equipment is affected by various factors including proper use and positioning of the equipment, maintenance of the equipment and the specific welding procedure and application involved. Worker exposure level should be checked upon installation and periodically thereafter to be certain it is within applicable OSHA PEL and ACGIH TLV limits.
