Grounding and
Arc Welding Safety

Welding application image
Grounding of electrical circuits is a safety practice that is documented in various codes and standards. A typical arc welding setup may consist of several electrical circuits. Applying and maintaining proper grounding methods within the welding area is important to promote electrical safety in the workplace. Associated processes such as plasma cutting will also benefit from proper grounding.

New! Modular Extraction Hood

Modular extraction hood image Lincoln Electric's new Modular Extraction Hood is engineered to contain and extract welding, cutting, arc gouging, and
grinding(1) fume from the work environment. Its innovative design brings a reliable and practical solution to the market. These units are ideal for robotic, hard automation and manual applications.

Features

Suspend hood from the ceiling or mount to the floor using the optional leg kit.
Sleek and lightweight design is easy to assemble, install and relocate.
Semi-transparent curtain strips contain the area, prevent cross drafts, and control airflow direction to maximize extraction effectiveness. Non-transparent curtain strips are available as an option.
Use with Lincoln's new Statiflex® Filter Bank.

More

(1) Not suitable when grinding aluminum, magnesium or other explosive materials.

The operation of welding fume control equipment is affected by various factors including proper use and positioning of the equipment, maintenance of the equipment and the specific welding procedure and application involved. Worker exposure level should be checked upon installation and periodically thereafter to be certain it is within applicable OSHA PEL and ACGIH TLV limits.

Welding Productivity and Safety Tour

Meeting image The Cleveland Section of the American Welding Society (AWS) and Lincoln Electric's Automation Division teamed up to sponsor a "Welding and Safety Productivity Tour" that addressed ways to increase safety measures and develop an action plan to keep manufacturing competitive.

More than 90 individuals, including AWS members, Lincoln customers and other guests gathered for the presentation and AWS' business and award recognition last month at Lincoln Electric's new Automation Center of Excellence.

The presentation and meeting concluded with a pasta dinner and 50/50 raffle provided by the AWS. A business card drawing was held for autographed Chip Foose® Hemisphere™ welding helmets, Lincoln Electric logo merchandise and restaurant gift cards, all courtesy of The Lincoln Electric Company.

How I Did It: Portable Work Station

From: "Hot Rod" Ed of New York, NY

Portable Work Station imageThis is my portable work station I made with my Lincoln
Precision TIG® 185 (current model is Precision TIG® 225) and Pro-MIG® 175 wire feeder welder (current model is
Pro-MIG® 180). All the metal used in this project was recycled material from the garbage. I am a private sanitation engineer (I like the term "garboligist") in the New York City area and I build hot rods in my free time. My work area for building cars consists of the basement and the side of my house (there is no garage).

When I first got your
Precision TIG® 185 welder I was unsure of using it. I went to your welding school which was very helpful. It really inspired me to weld everything for everybody!

I needed a place to put my metal shear, panel puncher, shrinker and stretcher, vise, and grinder. I decided to use recycled steel and put it on a bud wheel from a tow truck. I found the 4 inch pipe and 1/2 inch flat plate in our transfer station. So I didn't misplace any of my tools I decided to hook everything onto the work station with steel rods.

When the work station needs to be moved, I just lean it on the rim and spin it to its next location.

My next project is to make a stand for the Pro-MIG® 175.

Thank you.
